Great Tips – One Missed if you Drive a Manual Transmission – When Accelerating, skip Gears. Example: 1,2,3,5 or 1,3,5. Getting to a Higher gear sooner helps. Also don’t down shift unless necessary. I have two small towns that I drive through with only 1 or 2 lights. I can leave my car in 5th gear right through each town (30 mph) if I catch the lights.
I drive a 2005 Toyota Corolla (5 speed manual). I average between 38-40 mpg locally and as High as 44 mpg hwy.
Finally, slow-up! Leave 5 minutes sooner for work. Just driving 50-55 mph instead of 55-60 makes a difference of 2-3 mpg. In one years time it does add up.
